Starbucks, Pret A Manger, Dunkin, all of these chains are so… ordinary. Is there a New York-centric coffee chain? Why yes, there is! It’s called Cafe Grumpy. I went to it over the weekend and was charmed by the small Chelsea location. Their logo, the grumpy little face you can just see in the picture below, is incredibly charming in this world of happy face emoticons.
According to their website, there are four locations in the New York area. Their coffee is strong — as in I needed to add four Splenda’s and a heck of a lot of skim milk. However, for you die-hard coffee connoisseurs, this is a must on your list for NYC.
I also had to try a pastry for all our readers. I decided on banana bread, since it seemed to be one of the healthier sweet options that day.
It turned out to be such a nice place! I’m glad my friend suggested we meet there. With four locations, one is sure to be close to you. I was at the Chelsea one, but they have others: lower east side, Grand Central terminal and the Fashion District. They have one in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where they were founded, as well as in Park Slope. Go! You’ll enjoy it!
